Dental Implants Preparation Procedure

Posted on 10/11/2021 by Oral and Facial Surgery Center
Dental Implants Preparation ProcedureA dental implant is an approach that replaces missing or damaged teeth with artificial teeth and replaces tooth roots with metals. Dental implants involve taking several approaches that requires a proper amount of preparation. Below are preparation procedures for dental implants.

Get a Thorough Dental Examination

The first step of a dental implant is assessing whether you are a good candidate for a dental implant. Your dental examination involves x-rays, mouth assessment, and review of your medical records. Based on this information, our dentist will make special considerations depending on your health. They will then review the plan with you to let you know what to expect.

Taking Antibiotics

If you receive an organ or medical implant, you will need to use immunosuppressant drugs to avert your body from attacking the implants. Before accepting a dental implant, you must take antibiotics that act as a substitute immune system. For patients with chronic conditions, we recommend they take antibiotics before and after the procedure.

Prepare The Jaw and Your Body

If you receive the dental surgery under anesthesia, you will have to stay without eating for at least twelve hours. If your jawbone is soft or thin, it cannot support the implant, and you will require a bone graft. After the bone graft procedure is done, you will have to wait several months before getting a dental implant.

Watch What You Eat

Before your dental implant, have a light and healthy meal. If you have an Iv sedation, do not eat after midnight the day before your surgery. Eating heavy meals might negatively affect the dental procedure.

Prepare for Aftercare

After every procedure, patients experience swelling and soreness, and getting enough rest is essential for quick healing. You need to take some days off after surgery to give yourself enough time to heal. Ensure you stock enough soft food and medication. Take a break from exercising and get someone to help with house chores. Please schedule an appointment with us to get more information on dental implants.
