It is important to come for regular dental examinations to ensure your gums and teeth are healthy. However, it is normal for patients of all ages to feel uneasy during some dental appointments. Dental anxiety is a common issue, but here at our office, it is our priority to make patients feel safe and comfortable. As such, we will talk about some actions that you can take to cope with your dental anxiety.
Breathing exercises can help you ensure your mind remains relaxed. As such, breathing exercises help are pretty useful when reducing the stress you may have during dental appointments. We recommend closing your eyes and slowly inhaling through your nose. Hold your breath for a few seconds, and exhale through your mouth.
Getting a distraction in the dental office can also help you cope with your dental anxiety. You can make an arrangement and see if you can watch TV. You can also listen to the radio, even to calming music if you bring your headphones. This is bound to make your appointment more comfortable.
Come With a Friend
Going with a friend or relative to your dental visit makes you feel secure. We greatly encourage you to ask someone you trust to accompany you to your dental exam; even though you may not speak with them in the exam room, their sole presence will make the process easier.
